Our School Motto: Achieving Excellence is our Ultimate Goal.

A BRIEF HISTORY...

AmericaThe Yankeetown Elementary School was constructed in 1960. In 1988-89, the building was completely remodeled. The building houses 268 students in grades K-5 and a faculty of 15 teachers. The school site contains approximately 20 acres of land, which is located north of Yankeetown, adjacent to Indiana State Highway 66. Yankeetown students have the option of going to either Boonville Middle School or Castle North Middle School upon completion of the fifth grade.

The one-story building is constructed of concrete blocks with a steel panel and buff brick exterior. Situated along two doubled-loaded corridors are 15 classrooms, a self-contained kindergarten room, computer room, library, lounge, remedial reading/speech room, combination art/music classroom, nurse's office, rest rooms and an administrative office area. A morning and afternoon daycare program is provided via the Y.M.C.A. for working parents.

Students at Yankeetown Elementary participate in a variety of programs including Honor Roll, Spell Bowl, Robotics, Battle of the Books, Environmental Club and Student Leadership Club. Each program is designed to recognize students for exemplary academics and behavior. At Yankeetown, we focus our teaching on the Indiana Department of Education's state standards at each grade level. Teachers in kindergarten, first, and second grade use an assessment system known as DIBELS to evaluate student progress in reading and math throughout the year. Teachers in grades three, four, and five utilize an online testing program with students called Acuity. These assessment instruments allow teachers to collect and analyze student performance data, which helps them to plan instructional activities appropriately. Intervention groups are utilized for students who haven't mastered the standards for their grade level.

Finally, all successful schools understand the importance of building strong relationships with the families who live in the surrounding community. The Yankeetown Parent-Teacher Organization is a large group of involved parents who work tirelessly to support our school. By working together, we can support our students by creating and sustaining the best possible educational environment.
